The Maggie Valley Band
Dark Appalachian • $5 COVER AT DOOR
Based in the small North Carolina town that shares their name, The Maggie Valley Band brings sister-sister harmonies to a mix of indie & folk rock they affectionately describe as “dark Appalachian”.
Whitney (vocals, guitar, harmonica) & Caroline (vocals, bass) Miller grew up in a home where playing the piano was a daily requirement. That childhood regimen blossomed into a passion that eventually inspired the sisters to hit the streets to busk. After years of busking, the Miller sisters officially formed The Maggie Valley Band, deciding to take their work inside–to venues near & far and into the recording studio.
The band’s first release, Don’t Go, debuted in 2016, followed by The Hardest Thing in 2018 (with Grammy- & Emmy-nominated producer David Mayfield). 2020 saw the release of the EP Something New (produced by Jantzen Wray), with their newest EP, Breakdown , following in 2022 (produced by Matt Langston of EleventySeven & Rock Candy Recordings).
Their career has taken them from Canada to Southern Florida–partnering with such diverse acts as: Sarah Shook + the disarmers, Jason Isbell, Infamous Stringdusters, Robert Randolph & the Family Band Black Lillies, Indigo Girls,Brent Cobb, Donna & the Buffalo Lonesome Riverband and many more!
“What really sets the group apart is the almost chilling vocal harmony of the sisters Miller. There is a weight to the music here that occasionally echoes The Band at its best. The group’s songs are filled with evocative images of timeless struggles. It usually takes a lifetime to write the kinds of songs these talented sisters have already created.”
