Mitch McConnell & the Senators
"New" Old-Time • $5 COVER AT DOOR
Mitch McConnell is originally from the Finger Lakes area of New York, where he spent his teen years attending old-time jams and honing his musical skill.
Now residing near Asheville NC, Mitch has performed his “New Old-Time” tunes from the East Coast to California & and back again. He’s been delivering distinct renditions of traditional Appalachian tunes — along with hefty amounts of originals — in Western North Carolina for over a decade.
Taking first place in the banjo competition at Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival of Music & Dance, McConnell has swept up awards at Grass Roots festivals in New York and North Carolina. He has also lent his award winning claw hammer skills to collaborations with the Hilltop Haints, Chinquapin Duo and Bag-O-Tricks.
Mitch has hosted many old-time jams through the years and has more recently formed the performance group Mitch McConnell and the Senators, offering up a contemporary twist on old-time music.
McConnell has assembled a curated collection of musicians — including bassist Chris Caruso, six-string strummer J.C. Tokes, and drummer Eric Ciesla — to help transform the old-time sound into a captivating new form, honoring the history and flavor of Appalachian music while extending a hand to today’s more beat-centric ears.
If you have even a passing interest in traditional Appalachian music — and don’t mind going a little left of center — Mitch McConnell and the Senators is a MUST!
Old-time classics & originals performed on the banjo, backed with Mitch’s railroad voice, a drum beat, bass & guitar.
