The J.C. Tokes Family Band
Retro-Americana + Appalachian Chillbilly • $5 COVER AT DOOR
Hailing from the lush mountains of Western North Carolina’s Madison County — a land of misfits & outlaws where moonshine stills & ramshackle cabins abound — J.C. Tokes tells life’s tales through Genuine Americana, a mix of folk/country/blues and retro rock-n-roll, with an eclectic set of older B-sides & classics along with original favorites-to-be.
After some touring with a rockabilly band, J.C. started his own venture as a one-man-band, playing original compositions with a kick bass-drum, hi-hat, kick-snare, six-string, and a microphone. In 2017, he released his ‘live recorded’ solo album Broke Down, featuring only original songs. At the same time, he jumped into the Bag-O-Tricks band, a collaboration with musicians Laura Thurston and “Banjo Mitch” McConnell, which continues in various forms to this day.
The J.C. Tokes Family Band began in 2018. Their forthcoming 2023 album, recorded live at “Marshall Shoals”, features full-band recordings of original material.
J.C. has shared the stage with the Sons of Ralph & Claude Coleman Jr. of Ween, opened for Wayne “the Train” Hancock, played the Deep Water Soul Fest along with Lukas Nelson, and has appeared on the “Blue Plate Special” radio show out of Knoxville and Henry Turner Jr’s “Listening Room” in Baton Rouge.
J.C. continues to spend much of the year on the road playing shows. Spanning funny & sad, sweet & raunch, Tokes makes music to tap a toe or shake a leg to!
The Tokes Family Band includes brothers J.C. Tokes (6-string & a microphone), Chris C. Tokes (bass & vocals), and Jason R. Tokes (percussion & vocals).
