The outfit took their manic, upbeat riffs on the road and have embarked on several east coast tours and recorded multiple EP's. Wild Earp and The Free for Alls

    9:00pm - $5 Entry

    WEBSITE - FACEBOOK - BANDCAMP

Wild Earp takes you on a road trip across Americana, taking his time along those country roads and learning some bad habits in the city. His songs are of a man who’s spent too much time alone in the forest, the prairie, the mountains, the desert, and the barroom. With a respectful nod to the old masters and a defiant scoff at the purists, Earp croons his country tunes, and mixes those pensive trail songs with jumping rockabilly, spirited bluegrass, rowdy rock, and sometimes ventures into the dark corners of folk.

He’s backed by The Free for Alls, a talented and fun-loving cast of characters who give life and depth to the music. Their hootin’ and hollerin’ enthusiasm is matched by their good taste and broad talents, and they leave nothing off of the table. They ain't too hard on the eyes, neither!

With a passionate, tender, and rollicking style that winningly veers from roots and folk to dance and fusion-rock, Seven Nations has earned a growing reputation as an adventurous band with a charismatic stage presence.

The Piper Jones Band is centered around beautifully and energetically played Highland bagpipes accompanied by the percussive chords of the bouzouki and drum. In addition to original instrumentals and traditional tunes from Ireland, Scotland, and Appalachia, the group sings powerful harmonies and can lead the audience in traditional Celtic dances.

    FACEBOOK - BANDCAMP

Vaden Landers is a multi-instrumentalist from eastern Tennessee. As a young man he began traveling America's highways and railroads, studying American folk music styles such as Old-time, Country, Blues, Cajun & Jug. Firmly planted in Asheville NC's thriving roots music scene, Tellico is well schooled in bluegrass but with an unbridled organic “Appalachiacana” sound, combining some of the finest voices, songs and instrumental prowess in western North Carolina and beyond. Anya Hinkle and Stig Stiglets' committed, authentic vocals are alloyed with Aaron Ballance's flowing and soaring dobro and Jed Willis' textured and expressive mandolin, rooted in the mountain music they grew up with while pushing tradition into a modern Americana sound aesthetic.

    Amongst The Trees

    9pm - $5 Entry

Amongst the Trees is a trio born out of the red clay of Upstate South Carolina and filtered through 3 collective lifetimes of musical joy and experience.  Josh Gibson and BJ Callahan met at a beer festival in 2016, and discovered a mutual love of The Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, and craft beer. They brought on BJ’s longtime friend and drummer, Larry Williams, shortly there after.  The rest is funky, jammy, grassy history. Original compositions, old traditional tunes, tight harmonies, and a healthy dose of improvisation are at the core of what makes Amongst The Trees a unique voice in the modern music landscape.

    Nikki Talley

    7pm

Nikki Talley long time Jack of the Wood & Asheville favorite and extremely talented songsmith hailing from the mountains of western North Carolina, it’s only fitting that her songs are as eclectic as the state that boasts the mountains and the sea. Along with her guitar & clawhammer style banjo, her musical partner & husband Jason Sharp adds resonant lush guitar tones as well as harmonies to round out the duo’s sound.

“Nikki Talley has traveled a lot of miles these past few years and called numerous places home, but we in Western NC still want to claim her as one of the area’s finest singer-songwriters. Always genuine and down to earth, she and her partner Jason Sharp deliver her latest songs on Out From the Harbor in a beautiful, laid-back style — just in time for a beautiful, laid-back summer.“ -Martin Anderson WNCW Music Director & Host

"Talley’s always silken, yet adaptable voice is on full display on this album, whispering sweet nothings to the listener on some songs, belting out her passion with full desperate power on others and crooning out her heartache honky-tonk style."    –Bold Life Magazine

    The Maggie Valley Band

    9pm - $5 Entry

Hailing from North Carolina, two sisters and friends of the Maggie Valley band came together in the town they now identify themselves with. Each member learned their trade of music in the beautiful mountains of Maggie Valley, NC. Sisters Whitney & Caroline Miller grew up in a home where playing the piano was a daily requirement. Daily requirements turned to passion as they hit the streets to street busk. After years of busking, the band was officially formed and decided to take it inside-to venues. TMVB is currently in the studio for their album under the direction of Grammy nominated producer, David Mayfield. Vocals/Guitar/Mandolin/Harmonica/Banjitar - Whitney Miller, Vocals/Bass/Percussion - Caroline Miller

FIN DOG - Fin Dog is an Asheville, NC based string band, performing original tunes and a variety of covers from multiple genres with bluegrass instrumentation. "They specialize in woozy waltzes, dark, standup-bass-fueled raveups, and ghoulish, thumping set-pieces that are more like haunting short stories than songs. There are also punk-rock style gang-vocals, references to Toys R' Us, and other general anachronisms that belie the "old-timey music" stereotype. " — Vincent Harris, The Charleston City Paper. Fin Dog features Ryan Stockham on banjo, Nick Fierstos on mandolin, Brett Tingley on bass, and Adam Rettig on guitar.

    Nikki Talley

    7pm - No Cover!

The Old Chevrolet Set - FACEBOOK

Opening the show is D.W. DOUCET - Mainly a punk rock musician throughout his early teens, D.W. found his inspiration for folk and blues music through first listening to Tom Waits while traveling through Death Valley with his father.Eventually finding comfort in playing as a one man band. D.W. found some chains on the side of the road which he wraps around his left foot to stomp. An old 1950's racing stripe suitcase, and an anvil made from a railroad track.. His music is from the heart of ghost towns, howling trains, and seeking peace and redemption by the riverside.

    9pm - $5 Entry

A darkly honest and wry singer/songwriter out of Charleston, South Carolina, Don Merckle’s tunes have one foot in the foot-stompin' Celtic punk of The Pogues and Dropkick Murphy’s and another firmly planted in the alt-country tradition popularized by Uncle Tupelo, Whiskeytown, and the Drive-by Truckers, capable of both rock and roll growl and smoky barroom introspection. In the past, he's led the popular Appalachian/Irish-indebted outfit Loch Ness Johnny as well as co-fronted the rambunctious alt-country leaning American Gun, and between the two bands he's served as an opening act for Drivin' N Cryin', Lucero, Shooter Jennings, The Avett Brothers, and Cracker. His latest backing band, The Blacksmiths, deftly mix the disparate approaches of his previous acts into a sound and feel that ably captures the ineffable blend of roots music and rock and roll at the heart of Merckle's songs.

    Woody Pines

    9pm - $8 Entry

WOODY PINES - If you’re wondering where the music of Nashville troubadour WOODY PINES comes from, look to the streets. It was on the streets as a professionalbusker that Woody first cut his teeth, drawing liberally from the lost back alley anthems and scratchy old 78s of American roots music, whether country blues, jugband, hokum, or hillbilly. Heavy rollicking street performances are the key to some of today’s best roots bands, like Old Crow Medicine Show (Woody and OCMS’ Gill Landry used to tour the country in their own jugband), and they’re the key to Woody’s intensely catchy rhythms, jumpy lyrics, and wildly delirious sense of fun.                                     Woody traveled all over the streets of this country, road testing his songs, drawing from the catchiest elements of the music he loved and adding in hopped- up vintage electrification to get that old country dancehall sound down right.

Nikki Talley @ 7pm: A Pub Music Series in July

    7pm - No Cover!

    West End String Band

    9pm - $5 Entry

THE WEST END STRING BAND - We're happy to have the West End String Band back for another fun night at jack of the Wood! Charlie and Kathy McDaniel have played around WNC for a year or so as a duet, playing bluegrass, folk, and acoustic blues, always longing for a banjo to take their music back to its traditional roots. They were ecstatic when Jim Rollins joined the group with his superb banjo playing and high lonesome vocals. His style, though steeped in traditional bluegrass, is versatile and creative. Jim’s voice will pull your heartstrings. Matt Purinton, of Six Mile, SC, adds his unique mandolin and deep rich baritone to the West End String Band sound. Brian VanAntwerp is the most recent addition to the band, providing sizzling fiddle and vocal harmonies.
